Deseret Book has committed to give Hagoth a try in their stores!! So, Hagoth will be available in a select number of stores (which ones is still unknown) very soon. This is super exciting news for me (and my family of course)! Maybe one day LDS/Mormon themed games will be more widely available and perhaps become a little more like the mainstream board game scene.

Here's to hoping and acting to make it happen!!

And don't forget to check out the release event down in Salt Lake City next weekend (May 8th) at Game Night Games. Come learn to play the game and if you decide to buy you'll get a 10% discount!

Book of Mormon Clue Card Game

A couple of months ago James H Fullmer posted a Clue card game variant that he put together based on the Book of Mormon (he posted about it on his Sons of Mosiah blog here).  The idea is that seminary teachers could use it in class with their students.

What's pretty cool is that Jay has set it up so that actual people from the Book of Mormon are in the game and situations can be set up where the actual event actually happened. For example, Coriantumr invaded the land of Zarahemla and killed Pacumeni (the chief judge) by smiting him against the wall (Helaman 1 here). In more Clue-like lingo: Coriantumr did it (killed Pacumeni) in Zarahemla with the wall.

He provides 7 image files that you print out and cut up for the cards. An 8th file contains the sheets (AKA Detective Sheets) used during game play to keep track of pertinent information. Lastly, there is a document with the rules.

For some reason I really like things with mystery and unknown components. Clue isn't one of my favorites and I think that is because when I was younger I played Clue a lot with my dad. He beat me pretty much every time, never really "taking it easy" on me. But, if you want a Clue adventure set in Book of Mormon times, this is great!!

As Hagoth: Builder of Ships is the game I designed and I am super excited for it to finally be out for everyone to play, I of course want to share any and all news about it. So, on Saturday, May 8th there will be a release event/party at Game Night Games in Salt Lake City (here).

2030 South 900 East
(801) 467-2400

The event will run from 12:00 pm (noon) to 4:00 pm. During that time the game will be on sale for 10% off. There will be multiple copies of the game out for customers to play. I'll be there to help others learn to play the game. It's going to be a lot of fun and I hope that lots of people come check it out!

A new winner!!

So, over the weekend we had several people become fans and start following the blog here. Right now there are 156 fans/followers, so we need to have another drawing. This time the winner will receive a copy of Warriors of the Promised Land by James H. Fullmer (here).

And the winner is...

Leah Benjamin Taloa

Congratulations Leah!! Please contact me via Facebook or email so that I can get your address to send this game out to you.

To the rest of you, don't despair, once we hit 200 fans/followers then we'll have another drawing. I'm working on what game will be given away in that drawing, but you'll know as soon as I do.
